An important part of any baby shower is the baby shower games played by the attendees. These fun activities help the guests to interact, break the ice and get to know each other, making for a more relaxed and entertaining experience.
If your guest list is dominated by athletic types, think about playing your baby shower games outdoors. Not only will you probably have more space for your guests to mingle, but the physical activity can be a welcome relief from the typical games played in the living room while seated in a circle. Fire up the grill and have a picnic-style meal. Baby showers are a cause for celebrating new life and the joy of a soon-to-arrive child. So why not incorporate some childhood games and other activities to help celebrate the occasion?
Baby Doll Leapfrog: This is a classic childhood game with a baby shower game twist, and it doesn't require any special equipment. Pick a starting line and a finish line and have your guests pair off. If you have enough space, line everybody up and race all at once. Smaller yards may require racing in heats with the winners advancing to the next round. Add a twist to make it a true baby shower game by having the contestants compete while holding onto dolls. Dropping the doll or letting it hit the ground can result in penalties or disqualification.
Pregnant Hopscotch: Chalk off the driveway with a standard hopscotch board and hop away. What makes this a baby shower game? Outfit the hoppers with a backpack filled with a ten- or twenty-pound weight such as a bowling ball. Have them strap the backpack on their front instead of their back. Any pregnant mom can testify as to the additional difficulty hopping and bending over in this condition will add to the task. Not only will your guests enjoy the physical challenge, but your guest of honor may appreciate the attempts to relate.
Baby Stroller Race: This baby shower game can test your guests' speed and agility as well as their parenting instincts. Set up an obstacle course that the racers will have to navigate successfully from start to finish. Make them weave and slalom and place a few bumps along the way. Set a doll in the stroller and see who can complete the course the fastest. But take care of baby! Tipping over the stroller, letting the doll bounce or wind up sitting on its head is cause for penalties.
Many other childhood games lend themselves for adult play and many can be played with the added twist of incorporating a doll or simulating pregnancy with a weight-filled backpack. Be creative, have fun, and let your guests' inner-child come out. Your guests just might thank you for a good time, and for not making them sit on the couch on a lovely day.
